All tips and donations will be matched by the Beartooth Café. We hope to raise some money for Craig who will be in rehabilitation at St. Vincent’s in Billings for another month. A benefit appetizer function    will be held at the Firehall at 5 pm Saturday night, Sept. 9th—-the traditional night of the annual cabin tour which has been cancelled this year.  The benefit is for the Joe Fierro family, son-in-law of local residents, Earl and Judy McNinch.  Joe has been stricken with a very rapidly moving terminal cancer and has been given a prognosis of less than six weeks to live.  He and his wife have four small children and the family is in great need. Everyone in the community is invited.  Please join with your friends in the community,  bring an appetizer to share and we ask you to consider making a donation for the Joe Fierro family.

Beartooth Alliance    Weed Spraying News: Folks Beartooth Alliance had planned on spraying again this season as one day is not enough, but we no longer have the help to make that happen. We have had more requests for spraying than we can handle. It is a big job that needs lots of help from the government agencies and the landowners. It is the responsibility of the landowners but BA wants to help in anyway we can. We certainly have been successful in making people aware of the weed problem which is a very important step.  We have made an obvious improvement on weed eradication where the spraying has been done. The Montana and Wyoming US Forest Service and Yellowstone National Park plus our own Beartooth Alliance members deserve thanks for their help. There are restrictions as to where they can spray but those areas are showing a big improvement.  Bear with us, next year we intend to continue our weed-spraying program, hopefully with more help and more spray days. In addition, we have planned a meeting on weed identification. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.  Coming up: On September 14th at the Firehall at 7 pm, Jim Olsen biologist from the Montana Fish and Wildlife Service, will be giving an update on the Soda Butte Creek fisheries. Plan to attend to see how the Cutthroat Trout population is doing. The public is invited. Nellie Israel, BA chairman

Just for Fun

We had a different "drug" when we were young.  "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?'' ? I replied: "I had a drug problem when I was young": ? I was drug to church on Sunday morning. ? I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. ? I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. ? I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. ? I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me. ? I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profane four-letter word. ? ? I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields. ? I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and Neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed. ? Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place

Ramblings of a Retired Mind - some thoughts.

I was thinking about how a status symbol of today is those cell phones that everyone has clipped onto their belt or purse. I can't afford one. So, I'm wearing my garage door opener.

I was thinking that women should put pictures of missing husbands on beer cans!

I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is 'when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.'

I thought about making a fitness movie, for folks my age, and call it "Pumping Rust."

Thanks Bob and Dean !!! Send your funny tidbits to sliebl@juno.com
